Happy Fall! The first graders have been very busy. We have tackled getting use to long, busy and sometimes warm days at school. The first few weeks of school were review weeks. We reviewed the letters and their sounds. We practice red words every day. We practiced counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s. Each child was tested in AIMSweb. We have done a lot of practice with following directions, sitting quietly, and what to do during transition times. We have been benchmark testing and we will share the results at conference time.
We learned about our friend the Monarch butterfly. We learned the stages of a Monarch’s life. We watched our caterpillar change into a chrysalis but did not get to see it come out. We got to see most of the magic.

Please read with your child every night. They enjoy listening to stories as well as reading to an adult. We are still learning our 2 new reading programs this year and a new science program. It is a lot of work. We do so much during the day, please ask your child what they did every day. Please continue to check your child’s folder every night for homework and other important information. Thanks for helping your child with their homework every night.
